Harrison, Audley M.
Audley Harrison and Hannah Elizabeth Dennis are 1st cousins, because Audley''s mother and Hannah Elizabeth''s father are brother and sister.
By acts of the legislature of 1817 Bete Hoodenpyle, Samuel Terry, and William Rainey were authorized to open a Turnpike from Cumberland Mountain to Sequatchie Valley to the foot of the Mountain at McMinnville, TN. (Pikeville to McMinnville) Obediah Jennings was appointed Commissioner of "View". TOLL CHARGES.......wagon & team - .75 cents, carts & drivers .50 cents, man & horse 12 1/2 cents, each loose horse .03 cents, cattle .02 cents, hogs & sheep .01 cents. This charge was for road and ferry across the Collins River at McMinnville, TN.
Later this road was known as Harrison Ferry Road, and as tradition has it - Audley Harrison won the Road and Ferry in a card game with William Rainey. This would be rather easy for Audley as his wife, Hannah was always sitting in the room where the card games were in progress. She was supposedly busy at her spinning wheel. However, as she turned the wheel back and forth, the motions signaled to Audley what cards the other players were holding.
